The first summer school in radio astronomy successfully concludes

From August 31 to September 6, INAF - Osservatorio Astronomico di Cagliari and the Sardinia Radio Telescope held their first summer school in radio astronomy. It was aimed at 24 students, half from Sardinia and half from Lombardia, who are now starting their last year of high school.

"La radio del cosmo" (the cosmic radio, the name of the event) proved to be a great success: during the week the students worked hard, listened to lectures by the experts and learned to use instruments and make measurements on the field. They used the large sardinian radio telescope to "feel" a bit of radio astronomy and experience the job of an astronomer for a few hours. All while having fun and bonding as a group, showing an infectious enthusiasm and an eagerness to learn and to get involved, as was shown in their final presentations about the activities done during the school: little jewels of synthesis and creativity, that they presented with great ability and confidence. We're talking of smart students, who will certainly go far in their careers and increase the panorama of Italian excellence.

During their well-deserved breaks, the students got to visit Cagliari, the Sardinia Radio Telescope area, and spent a few pleasant hours at the beach, turning the school into an opportunity to also discover the beauty of the island.

The school then concluded with a nice final party, during which the students received several "astronomical souvenirs", which will help them remember this experience and carry it with them (in the picture we show the final party).

The excellent synergy between the organizers was also crucial to the success of the school, which was carried out with great professionalism by the company Sterrenlab, with the important scientific and logistical collaboration of physicists, astronomers and engineers of the Università di Milano and INAF - Osservatorio Astronomico di Cagliari.

We naturally hope that this experience has been valuable for the students who lived it, both in terms of how much they have learned and their awareness of the choices they will make in their lives. Given the school's success, we certainly hope to be able to repeat this event in the future.
